And then there was a cycling blog...

Rob and I are cycling every day this year, which
means that sometimes we will be riding late at night.
#365DayCyclingChallenge
After watching and reading about our cycling club and their many "challenges," Rob and I have created the #365DayCyclingChallenge. Our goal for 2017 is to ride at least a mile every day. In January, we never know what kind of obstacle we will face. The weather could be cold and wet or hot and dry. We also have both been involved with the Chevron Houston Marathon/Aramco Houston Half Marathon, so we have had that on our mind during early January.

The idea for this challenge came to us in December after attending the Space City Cycling Club holiday party and watching cyclists discuss their multiple century and metric century rides.  After watching others successfully complete their challenges, we knew we wanted our own challenge. No challenge is ever easy or it wouldn't be a challenge, but this challenge has a number of added difficult elements in the form of weather, extended work hours, vacations and, God forbid, illness. We have decided that we must ride at least one mile every day of the year, which means that even if we take a vacation, we must find a bike and ride it during that trip. We had been hoping to go to Hawaii this year, which means that we would have to ride early before we catch a flight to go and would have to find bikes to rent while we are there. On the trip home, we would be forced to ride late after a lot of jet lag. We might not get to take that trip this year, but if we do, it'll be an interesting and will require some planning for biking.

We are trying to post every day on social media. So far, one of us has either posted on Facebook or tweeted our daily rides. I'm hoping this blog will allow me to give a weekly synopsis. I wish I would have thought about creating this blog on January 1 when we started the challenge, but at least we are still in the first month. This is day 21. Today's ride was an early morning damps one, but we made it almost 11 miles on or mountain bikes. I'm excited about this challenge and posting about it.
